Leeloo and Derrick
Leeloo East (Born Weaver) and Derrick East met as kids when when Leeloo moved in to Derricks neighborhood in San Myshuno. Leeloo was the new foreign kid from Brindelton Bay and Derrick was the kind kid who took her under his wing. They were childhood friends and shared four things: Having crazy families, loving hip-hop music and being unusually creative and ambitious.

During their teen years they moved from childhood best friends pranking the neighbors together to two teenagers in love.
​
With both coming from big families with very little money and space, they decided to move out as teenagers and get their own jobs and try to make it in music and design. They moved to a small run-down house in the Foundry Cove neighborhood in Willow Creek.

Leeloo became pregnant with Gigi North and Etienne Snow unexpectedly and despite both Leeloo and Derrick worrying about their finances and how they would cope with twins, they soon found out that they both loved family life.
​
Derrick worked extra as a bouncer at the local lounge while trying to get music gigs and Leeloo worked as an art teacher while developing her social media brand on the side.
​
When their third daughter Winter Roux was born quickly after the twins, Derrick's music career started to pick up. While on maternity leave Leeloo took up painting and developed her design skills.

When their 3 daughters were still toddlers they decided to move to Del Sol Valley to get more opportunities and for Derrick to be closer to his managers and the music industry.

Lamar Bishop and Tarif Everson grew up like brothers in Del Sol Valley's less affluent neighborhood. Lamar was the good son who did what he was told and Tarif was the strong-willed little menace that always got into trouble. Even through they seemed like opposite, their bond as friends was for life. Their lives took opposite roads through seemingly leading them on a path to become enemies as Tarif started doing crime and getting involved with the Del Sol Valley gang. Lamar went away to the army and came back to a Tarif in trouble. It wasn't much Lamar could do though, Tarif had always been head-strong and gone his own way. After the military Lamar applied for the police academy and got in. At first Tarif was angry and felt like Lamar betrayed their old neighborhood but when Lamar started working as a police officer and Tarif got to see the good Lamar was doing, he felt respect for him. So even though Tarif had a career in crime and Lamar was on the road to becoming the police chief, their friendship never wavered.
It was when the East Family moved in next door when Gigi, Etienne and Winter was teenagers and Willow and Nuru was kids that Lamar and Tarif met the family.

Tarif, Lamar, Etienne and Winter
When Gigi, Etienne and Winter started hanging out with the older neighborhood boys, Derrick and Leeloo did not approve. But when Lamar turned out to be in the police academy Derrick softened a bit after spending time with them during their monthly barbeque. The East family didn't know about Tarif's criminal career and only knew him as the quiet, calm young man next to Lamar's high energy.

Etienne and Lamar started dating with Derrick and Leeloo's permission. But one could not say the same for Winter and Tarif.
Secretly they would meet up to go to the movies and find ways to spend time together. With Etienne and Lamar dating, Tarif had an excuse to come over and hang out with the family.
​
When Winters older sister outed them to their parents in a heated argument between siblings, Derrick and Leeloo was not pleased. Derrick took Tarif to the side and gave him a talking to and after that it seemed like something clicked for Tarif, that he was part of this family now and Derrick treated him as a son. To everyone's surprise he asked Winter to marry him even though they were very young and she said yes.

It wasn't until a year after Tarif and Winter got married and they found out that Winter was pregnant that Tarif came clean to Derrick about his past and his career and asked for Derricks help.
Derrick used his industry contacts to help Tarif get a job in business, both to protect the families reputation and to give Tarif a fair second chance. Tarif now works as an investor together with Derrick in one of his companies.
